Updates

Despite the appearances, I have been quite busy since my last update! I have been slowly working on a new design for the site which is perhaps why I have been reluctant to update. I just returned from a great trip to Tallahassee, Florida for the Florida State University New Music Festival where Scotty Philips performed a thing of dream and mist for soprano saxophone and electronics. The past year has been exciting and quite packed including:

  • Music: Cognition, Technology, and Society Conference at Cornell in May
  • June in Buffalo 2012
  • American Conservatory in Fontainebleau, France in July
  • Traveling around France for 2 weeks in August
  • Beginning teaching at the Eastman Community Music School in September
  • First performances with the [Switch~ Ensemble] in October and November
  • Third Practice Electroacoustic Music Festival in November
  • Performances by: Argento Chamber Ensemble, Ensemble Interface, and Keith Kirchoff

Nadia Boulanger Composition Prize

Fontainebleau has ended, and I am really thrilled to have been awarded the Nadia Boulanger Composition Prize at the final awards ceremony. The past four weeks have been incredible. I’ve met so many great people and such had a wonderful so I’m really sad to see it end. Now that Amy (my wife) is here, we’ve rented a car and we’ll spend the next two weeks driving all around France. Check out my pictures from Fontainebleau as well as pictures from our trip here.

Second Prize in ASCAP/SEAMUS Commission Competition

I had a great week at Lawrence University for SEAMUS! I was able to hear some new music, catch up with old friends, and make some new ones. The trip was especially exciting as I was awarded Second Prize in the 2012 ASCAP/SEAMUS Student Commission Competition! Congratulations to the First Prize recipient, Eli Fieldsteel, and the other finalists Erik DeLuca and Lanier Sammons. As part of the award, SEAMUS has commissioned me to write a new work of my own choosing for the 2013 conference at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota.
